St. Petersburg’s Twisting Skyscraper

Lakhta CenterThis is the super tall skyscraper of Lakhta Centre in Saint Petersburg, Russia. At 462 – meter high, the skyscraper is the tallest building in Russia and (as of now) in Europe.
The building features 86 floors and at the top most of the building is an observation deck. If admission fee is required for visitors to get to the observation deck in the World Trade Center and Empire Estate Building in New York, The Shard in London, the Petronas Tower in Kuala Lumpur, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai to name few of some of the world’s tallest landmarks, getting to the observation deck of Lakhta Tower will cost nothing to visitors. This is absolutely very great news for budget travellers (including myself).
Construction of the building is still in progress and is expected to be completed by next year. The last time I was in Saint Petersburg, there was nothing standing on that place yet. So early today, as the ship was inching closer and closer towards Saint Petersburg’s newest and modern cruise terminal, the Marine Facade, I was really amazed to see a towering twisting structure sticking out from the city’s skyline.
Saint Petersburg is one of cruise ships’ most favorite destinations in Europe, so I am 100% sure we will be back here again sometimes next year and when that time comes I’ll see to it that my wandering feet will take me to the observation deck of Lakhta Tower for that 360 degree view of Saint Petersburg that keeps nagging my mind.
We are staying Saint Petersburg overnight but we are not alone – we got company. Three other cruise ships remained in the port too. In addition to cruise ships Queen Elizabeth and Regal Princess in which I believed was stalking us since Tallinn (…LOL… just kidding), there’s also the Norwegian Getaway of NCL.
Perhaps by now some of my colleagues are ashore having great time – eating, shopping or in some night spots I don’t want to kno 🙂 🙂 🙂 . Well, I don’t have other things in mind right now but head for the gym and start the routine I missed – run on the tread mill. I was back onboard a month ago but since day one, not even once I visited the gym. So tonight, in Saint Petersburg and with nothing in mind for the night, is the night to get back on track and stay fit. Good night!
